Biography

Isobel Griscom was born in Chattanooga, TN in 1898. She went to college at the University of Miami in Oxford, OH before earning her Master's degree from the University of Wisconsin. She returned to Chattanooga and taught English at the University of Chattanooga from 1922-1963. Griscom was very active in her local community. She founded the Chattanooga Art Association, she was a member of the League of Women Voters, the American Association of University Women, the Great Books group, the UC Faculty Women's Club, and served on the first board of directors to the Adult Education Council.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains scrapbooks, photographs, manuscripts, postcards, and personal papers dating from 1913 to 1977. Included are scrapbooks Griscom produced as a young girl through adulthood, images of her and her family, as well as a notebook of poems. All of which give a glimpse into the personal and professional life of this honored University of Chattanooga professor.
