Biography
Cyrus Griffin Martin was a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army during World War I. He served in the American Expeditionary Forces and was part of the 157th Field Artillery Brigade unit in France during most of his service. His service ended in France on April 25, 1919. After exiting the armed forces, Griffin met his wife, Rosalind E. Martin, and settled down in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where Cyrus enjoyed a career as a banker and lawyer for the American Trust and Banking Company from 1922 until 1960. Martin died on July 27, 1981 at the age of 86. He was survived by his two children, Cyrus Griffin Martin Jr. and Mary Ewing Martin.

This collection is comprised of Martin's correspondence, military records, financial records, and notepads created during his service as a Second Lieutenant in the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. The contents of the collection date from 1917 to 1919. Included in the collection are official letters to Martin concerning his departure from service and his promotion to Second Lieutenant in the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I.
