Lloyd, Marilyn (1929-2018)
Biography
Marilyn Lloyd (born Rachel Marilyn Laird in Fort Smith, Arkansas on January 3, 1929) studied at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia. She married Mort Lloyd and the couple owned and managed WTTI, a radio station located in Dalton, Georgia, and an aviation company in Tennessee. Her husband ran for Congress in 1974 as a Democrat for the Southern Tennessee district, however he passed away in a tragic plane crash just weeks after securing the nomination.
Biography
After Mort's untimely death, Marilyn was selected to replace him as the party candidate, and after defeating the GOP incumbent, continued to win re-election campaigns. During the entirety of her career, Lloyed served on the Committee on Science, Space and Technology in her district. Lloyd held her position for nearly 20 years before deciding not to run for re-election in 1993.

This collection contains the congressional papers of Congresswoman Marilyn Lloyd, who represented the Third District of Tennessee from 1974 until 1994.
