This series is broken into three subseries: audiovisual materials, photographs, and objects.

The first subseries, audiovisual materials, is made up of cassette tapes, CDs, DVDs, floppy disks, open reel audiotape, and VHS tapes with creation dates spanning from c. 1970 to 2010. It also contains transcripts and documents pertaining to some of the meetings recorded on the aforementioned materials. While these paper documents are accessible to researchers, the audiovisual material is restricted due to a combination of the fragility of the materials and the present lack of equipment available to digitize the content. The majority of these materials are audiocassette recordings of Tennessee General Assembly committee meetings.

The second subseries, photographs, contains photographs, negatives, and color slides from 1946 to 2009. The photographs and negatives include images of Brown’s family in her youth, church events, legislative events such as the Annual Day on the Hill, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority events. The color slides from the 1970s appear to be from Brown’s social work career and from the accreditation of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Social Work program.

The third subseries, objects, contains materials acquired from Dr. Brown’s time in the state legislature with creation dates spanning from 1994 to 2012.
