Biographical / Historical

Jeffrey L. Brown was a professor of Archaeology at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He established the Insitute of Archaeology at the university in 1975 and his research interests included industrial, historical, and prehistoric archaeology. In pursuit of his research interests, Professor Brown amassed a collection of books and manuscripts related to engineering and industry, including the local business records in this collection.

Will Stokes was a photographer in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He took photographs of the furnaces, heaters, and other equipment in the Chattanooga Gas Company photograph album.
