Biographical / Historical

The Hixson Family lived in Chattanooga from 1914 until 1920, during the time of Dr. Fred Hixson's Presidency at the University of Chattanooga. The family was comprised of Dr. and Mrs. Fred Whitlo Hixson and two young sons-Jerome and Bob. After their time in Chattanooga, which Jerome looks back upon fondly, the family moved to Meadville, Pennsylvania where Dr. Hixson had taken the prestigious position of President of Allegheny College. Fred Hixson began his career as a Methodist pastor before being called into service in higher education. He died on November 24, 1924. Jerome went on to teach in the English department at DePauw University from 1927-1967. He retired to Englewood, Florida with his wife Margaret. The title of his memoir is Past Perfect. Jerome passed away on June 18, 1989.
