Biographical / Historical

Harriet Marpe McGilliard was born on March 17, 1870 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from Cincinnati Wesleyan College and was a life long member of the Hartwell Methodist Chuch in Cincinnati. Mrs. McGilliard was president of the Christ Hospital Ladies Aid Society for 37 years and was active in the church and civic affairs. She had two sons, Walter and Paul McGilliard, and one daughter, Eleanor McGilliard, who was a professor at the University of Chattanooga in the Biology Department in the 1950's. Harriet died on August 30, 1954.

This collection was deposited with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on an unknown date by an unknown source, although as Harriet's daughter, Eleanor McGilliard was a member of faculty at the University of Chattanooga, it is likely that Eleanor donated the materials to the University.
