He also attended sessions at Oxford University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Paris. He practiced law in Missouri from 1929-1934. Lockmiller oversaw the expansion of student enrollment (from 600 to 2000 students), the physical plant (9 permanent buildings were constructed), and academic curriculum. He was active in local civic organizations, including the Rotary Club. In 1953, Lockmiller was named Chattanooga’s “Man of the Year” and was presented with the Kiwanis Club’s Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Lockmiller left the University of Chattanooga in 1959 to serve as president of Ohio Wesleyan University (Delaware, OH).
