Thomas B. Stapp receipts
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of various receipts documenting the amount of money Stapp owed and paid for several services. These receipts include: receipts from Chattanooga University and U.S. Grant University for tuition, French class, fines, and the University Baseball Association, receipts from the Literary Society for dues owed, and receipts for bought furniture, paid poll tax, Y.M.C.A dues, a subscription to the Lookout newspaper, and for groceries. All of these receipts range in date from 1886 to 1890.

Biographical / Historical
Thomas B. Stapp was born in 1868 and was one of the first students to attend Chattanooga University (now the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga), and US Grant University when the name was changed to this in 1889. Stapp was a native of Kentucky, but lived in Chattanooga for most of his life. He owned Stapp's Book Store in Chattanooga for more than 40 years, until the time of his death in January, 1954.
