Biographical / Historical
Sir Thomas Hamner, editor of The Works of Shakespeare, in which the engravings were originally published, was born in 1677 and served as a members of the British parliament from 1701 to 1927. After his retirement, he edited his six volume work, illustrated with engravings by Hubert Francois Gravelot.
