This series contains documents, meeting minutes, pamphlets, and other records pertaining to the community-based movements in which Brown was involved, spanning from 1968 to 2012. The series includes records of the Tennessee Black Leadership Roundtable, an organization Brown helped to establish, and the Brown v. Board of Commissioners of the City of Chattanooga lawsuit against discriminatory voting practices.

This series includes records from Brown’s campaigns for election as well as records pertaining to the campaigns of the Democratic Party as a whole from 1991 to 2011. Notable contents include fliers and ephemera created to promote Brown’s campaigns over the years as well as a draft of Brown’s victory speech from her initial 1992 election.

She completed her dissertation in 1984 after performing research on Black community leadership in Chattanooga.
