This collection contains photographs, newspaper clippings, papers, memorabilia, and other materials documenting the Chattanooga Lookouts minor league baseball team from 1912 to 1987, with the bulk of materials dating from the 1930s to the 1960s. The materials within this collection were collected or created by Davis “Sandy” Sandlin, lead athletic trainer and traveling secretary for the Chattanooga Lookouts from 1938 to 1965. The collection is composed of photographs depicting Lookouts players, team management, Engel Stadium, and the Lookouts’ former scout and president, Joe Engel. Two items, newspaper clippings from 1984 and 1987, date from after Sandlin’s death in 1979, and were likely added by his wife, Eleanor R. Sandlin.
