Scope and Contents

This collection documents activities of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, in particular, the establishment and operation of the Frances Willard Home (originally named the Working Girls Home) from 1887 to 1976. Additionally, materials in the collection document the restoration and renovation of the Frances Willard Building at 615 Lindsay Street from a residential building to commercial office space. The renovation... was completed between 1979 and 1980 by a local investment group composed of entrepreneur Jack McDonald, Franklin Group Architects, and real estate developer Tommy Van Cleave. The collection includes WCTU of Chattanooga chapter constitutions, charters of incorporation, bylaws, financial reports, building estimates, correspondence, newspaper clippings, and photographs.
