Scope and Contents
This collection consists of six volumes of meeting minutes and correspondence ranging from 1899 to 1969. These records document the role of the Executive Committee in governing the University of Chattanooga on behalf of the Board of Trustees. The minutes of the Executive Committee meetings are much briefer than those of the full Board of Trustees meetings, as they do not contain annual reports from the president and other subcommittees. However, the subject matter of these minutes is very much the same as the minutes of the full Board of Trustees meetings and includes documentation of decisions made on the expansion and growth of the physical plant, curriculum development, faculty and staff appoinments, the conferral of honorary degrees and memorial statements, and administrative changes.

Biographical / Historical
The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Chattanooga took general charge of overseeing the interests of the University in the interval between full meetings of the Board of Trustees. Consequently, it convened with much greater frequency, often times monthly or bimonthly depending on the year. The Executive Committee also worked closely with other committees of the Board of Trustees throughout various construction and campus improvement projects including the Building Committee and Fundraising Committee. After the University of Chattanooga merger with the University of Tennessee system in 1969, The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees was tranformed along with the rest of the board into the executive committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Chattanooga Foundation.
