Baker, LaMar (1915-2003)
Biography
LaMar Baker (1915-2003) was born in Chattanooga December 29, 1915. He attended David Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tennessee from 1936-1938 and Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas in 1940 and served in the Army from 1942-1946. After his time in the military, Baker began his career as a politician, serving as a member of the Tennessee state general assembly (1967-1968), a Tennessee state senator (1969-1970), a delegate to Tennessee State Republican conventions (1967-1972), a delegate to the Republican National Convention (1972), a Reublican to the Ninety-second and Ninety-third Congresses (1971-1975), and regional representative to the secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation (1981-1985).
