Biographical / Historical
LaMar Baker was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on 1915 December 29. He attended Lipscomb University in Nashville for two years before earning his undergraduate degree from Harding Collection in Arkansas in 1940. After his service in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, Baker returned to Chattanooga where he was a successful businessman. In 1970, Baker was elected to the United States House of Representatives in which he served two terms. After serving as a regional representative in the United States Department of Transportation during Ronald Reagan's presidency, Baker retired and lived his later years in Nashville, Tennessee. He passed away on 2003 July 20. Olive Hunt managed Congressman LaMar Baker's press liaison office during his second term in the United States House of Reporesentatives in 1973 and 1974. During that time, she published The LaMar Baker Newsletter.
