This collection contains original drafts of Bishop Guerry's (1861-1928) sermons, articles, correspondence, speeches, and prayers from about 1907-1928 -- the last 20 years of his life. Many of Guerry's articles touch upon controversial topics such as the role of divorce in Christianity. The collection also includes the published forms of Guerry's articles, such as religious periodicals and newspapers. An interesting document in the collection outlines Bishop Guerry's investigation into the location of the American Revolutionary War General Moultrie's burial site.

Biographical / Historical

William A. Guerry was and Episcopal Bishop, Chaplain, and Professor of Homiletics and Pastoral Theology at the University of the South from 1893-1907. He was also the father of Alexander Guerry, University of Chattanooga President from 1929 to 1938.
